Impact100 DC Member Scholarship Program

We have created a Scholarship Fund as part of Friends of Impact100 DC. Each year, we intend to offer a limited number of scholarships depending upon available funds. Our application process is open for this founding year through Labor Day, 2020.

Scholarships are reserved for women who have the energy and interest to be active participants in Impact DC but who currently lack the funds to join. This program helps support our vision of building a diverse community of women from all backgrounds, ages, and walks of life who are committed to making a difference in our Washington, DC metropolitan community. We ask that applicants carefully evaluate their finances and need as well as their ability to play an active role in the Impact DC before applying for an Impact Scholarship.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be at least 21 years old; identify as female; and live in Washington, DC; the counties of Montgomery, Prince George’s, Fairfax, and Arlington; or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax or Falls Church.

What is the amount of the scholarship?

Two-year scholarships are available: the scholarship amount for year one is $650 and for year two, $350. Applicants must reapply in the second year; priority will be given to current scholarship recipients.

What is the process for application and review?

The application form is available here. Applications will be accepted through August 31st. Applications will be reviewed by an Impact DC Scholarship Committee consisting of three Board members.

  • Applications reviewed by Impact Scholarship Committee
  • Scholarship recipients must commit to playing an active role as an Impact volunteer in one or more of the following areas: membership recruitment, engagement or communications; and/or participation on a focus area committee. Accepted members will be contacted to help match areas of expertise and interest to organizational needs.
How are the scholarships funded?

Members have the option of paying their donation twice and donate the money to be used for scholarship. Friends of Impact may assign their donation to the scholarship program.

How does the Scholarship Committee select recipients?

In order to maintain a fair and consistent application review, the Scholarship Committee uses a rubric to score each candidate based on seven key attributes shown in priority order:

  • Desire to join and demonstrated interest in Impact DC
  • Demonstrated drive and initiative
  • Statement of need
  • Skills and talents
  • Under-represented demographic in the Impact100 DC
Are the scholarship recipients names kept confidential?

Yes. All Scholarship Committee members sign a privacy agreement.

How many scholarships are awarded each year?

The number of scholarships depend on the yearly size of the scholarship fund.
